Rankings Explained

So you're her because you want to know how the rankings really work. We'll take techy stuff and turn it into plain olf English you'll understand so you walk away going "wow, that's pretty simple." Let's start with the actual formula and get the funky looking math out of the way first.

Where:

CountedWinPoints
The points given for a win that counts toward the team's total. Each ranking period a given number of wins will count (table provided below). If 6 wins count then if the points received for a win is one of the top 6 then it will be included in the CountedWinPoints.
#CountableWins
The number of wins that count for the ranking period.
LossPoints
The number of points given to each loss. All loss points count so you will be summing up all loss points.

It's really pretty simple. You add up the points from your X best wins (X changes from 4 up to 10 during the season, see the table below), and divide by the X + Total Loss points. The thing to keep in mind is that you only get so many wins that count, but all your losses count. The tables for Win Points, Loss Points and number of wins that count are all found below for reference.

Let's walk through a real example. Below are wins and losses for The University of Florida through 3/26/2018 that were in place for the rankings that came out on 3/27/2018. As you can see in looking at the table further below the top 7 wins count in the rankings published 3/27/2018, hence the red line drawn after 7 wins.
