If you're not a big college tennis fan already you may look at this and think Columbia? Really? Make no mistake, these guys are for real! This is a very talented Columbia squad that could make a good run. I don't expect the match with Virginia Tech to get too close but don't sleep on the Hokies. They finished the regular season last year on a tear winning their final 7 matches including a stunner over then #12 Florida State and capped it with wins over Louisville and Virginia as all three teams were battling to make the NCAA Tournament. However, there is just too much firepower in this Columbia lineup from top to bottom and in the end they should prevail in somewhat routine fashion.
In the other Saturday match we have Kentucky vs. Dartmouth. Kentucky looks to be in a rebuilding year after losing Bushamuka, Yates and Benson and Austin Hussey transferring to UNC Wilmington. The Wildcats were picked 10th by the coaches in the SEC preseason poll, and yet somehow they managed to garner some votes in this weeks ITA rankings, go figure. Dartmouth, like Kentucky, has a solid 1 but the bottom half of the lineup is a little suspect. Kentucky is not a strong doubles team so I'll give the dubs point to the Big Green. I like Kentucky at 1, 2 and 5 and think they find a way to grab one more to win this one but it could go either way.
Sunday will be back to watching the host school dominate as Columbia will roll through either teams.
Predictions:Kentucky 4, Dartmouth 3
