Oklahoma is one of the host schools with a very legitimate shot of being upset and I am looking very forward to the final here. The Sooners bring Spencer Papa back after a year off with a medical red-shirt and also add Spanish freshman Rafael Izquierdo to the lineup. Drake has a respectable lineup, but not one that will compete with the Sooners and Oklahoma will make quick work of this match.
The second match of the day on Saturday gives us Vanderbilt vs. Notre Dame. Notre Dame is much improved this year with the addition of Axel Nefve to the lineup and Vanderbilt lost Daniel Valent and Baker Newman from the 2/3 spots. All of that spells trouble for the 2nd seeded Commodores here as Notre Dame has got to be a pretty heavy favorite. Regardless of how the match turns out though, the match between Cam Klinger and Alex Lebedev should be a great one. However, even if the Dores can pull off the doubles point and a Klinger win, I'm not sure where they get two more. Likely their best chances are Rowe and Virtanen at 5/6 but I just don't see that happening.
If we do indeed end up with an Oklahoma vs. Notre Dame final it should be a great match. If you want to see hard hitting tennis make your way out to Court 1 and watch Spencer Papa and Alex Lebedev rip the cover off the ball. Not only will there be plenty of power on display but you'll see plenty of emotion too. You'll be hard-pressed to find someone as intense as Lebedev is on the court and that will be a classic match. Working down the lineup I like Oklahoma at 2 and 4 with Van Emburgh and Calvo and I like Notre Dame at 3 and 6 with Nefve and Cabrera. I haven't seen Izquierdo play yet and he is a freshman and I don't know what Papa has in him so with the uncertainty I'll take the Irish in a nail-biter.
Predictions:Oklahoma 4, Drake 0
