UCLA loses their top two starters from last season (Redlicki and Zhu) and still comes in as a contender this year. Maxime Cressy has elevated his level significantly and the Bruins bring in a highly touted Govind Nanda. The Bruin top 3 is definitely one to be reckoned with. The real question for the Bruins will be how they fare at the bottom of the lineup. They bring in another newcomer in Patrick Zahraj who is filling in at 4 this weekend. All that being said, this won't be the weekend where they learn too terribly much. They should easily handle Indiana Friday night setting up a match with either Ole Miss or San Diego on Saturday.
The Ole Miss vs. San Diego match ought to be a decent one. The lineups are very competitve with each other from 1-6. Ole Miss lost Finn Reynolds to injury and are playing freshmen at 4, 5 and 6 in addition to having to travel to the West Coast while the Toreros make the short trip up the coast. Ole Miss just returned from the USTA National Campus and a match with Texas last week where they didn't take a set in a 7-0 loss. Ole Miss will get better as the season goes but they definitely haven't hit a rhythm yet so I'll go with the Toreros here. As I say that let's not forget the magic the Rebels pulled off at Stanford in the NCAA Tournament last year, but that was with Hansson, Hamilton, Babic and Reynolds who will be no help now.
Predictions:San Diego 4, Ole Miss 3
