Everyone should know by now that Mississippi State is MY TEAM, so if you came here expecting to see anything other than an all Bulldog write-up, move along! If you are interested in this region follow along on Twitter this weekend as I'll be in Starkville to catch all the action. I must admit the weather prospects may make it tough to get those fingers tweeting away with temperatures projected to be in the 30s and the matches outdoors, but I'll do my best.
Things will get going Saturday morning with Arizona and UNC Wilmington. UNC Wilmington added a couple January commits one of which (Bruno Caula) will be in the lineup this weekend. The Seahawks have already played a couple competitive matches against ITA Kickoff teams in Florida Atlantic (lost) and BYU (won). They split those matches and it's a little step up from those matches to Arizona and my gut tells me Arizona is going to come out on top in this one, but UNC Wilmington will play some tight matches.
I frankly don't see a lot of places that Wichita State can grab a point against the Bulldogs and expect to see a pretty quick match as the Bulldogs will look to get ready for Sunday.
Come Sunday a lot of things are going to have to go right for Arizona to find a way to pull off the upset. The Bulldogs will be prohibitive favorites in doubles and at 1 and 2, which would mean that Arizona would have to win 3-6 singles. I don't see any way that happens. Maybe the Wildcats find a way to get a point but I think the Bulldogs will grab the dubs point and straight set wins at 1, 2 and 4 to end it in short order.
Predictions:Arizona 4, UNC Wilmington 1
